Lamons, approved by the American Petroleum Institute as a Level 4 supplier of ring joint gaskets, manufactures a wide variety of solid ring-type joint (RTJ) gaskets in standard sizes in accordance with API 6A, API 17D, and ASME B16.20 specifications. RTJ gaskets come in two configurations: oval cross-section (Style 377) and octagonal cross-section (Style 388). Both are used for pressures up to 10,000 psi (64 MPa). Their dimensions are standardized, and they require a special surface finish for installation in flange grooves. The octagonal type offers superior sealing efficiency; however, only the oval type can be used with flanges featuring round-bottom grooves.
The hardness of the ring must always be lower than the hardness of the flanges to prevent deformation of the latter.
