TYPE D INSULATION KIT VS DEFENDER INSULATION KIT
RTJ type flanges are generally used in applications with high pressures, the flanges are sized according to ASME B16.5, B 16.47 and API 6A standards. The pressures normally worked with this type of flanges range up to 2,500 psi for ASME and 20,000 psi for API. The typical way to seal this type of flange is to install a metal ring joint in an oval or octagonal format.
When insulation kits are used on RTJ flanges, they must guarantee operation, electrical insulation and static sealing. For this type of applications there are two solutions:
- Type D kit for RTJ flanges
Phenolic or G-10 type RTJ gaskets are specifically designed to fit in the groove of the flanges. This type of packaging is manufactured using a lamination process and with a binder to join several layers until reaching the desired thickness. In electrical insulation and static sealing for diameters greater than 4” or high pressures, these kits do not work adequately; the pressure reaction force generated by the fluid causes the layers to peel off, generating leaks and/or electrical continuity, premature failures in this type of packaging are common in most applications.
Flexilatina de Colombia DOES NOT recommend the use of this gasket on RTJ flanges, the most effective solution for this type of applications is to install a kit RF for critical service.
- DEFENDER F type kit for RTJ flanges
This solution is ideal for RTJ flanges in all types of applications, low and high pressures, small and large diameters. It is the optimal solution to guarantee correct static sealing and long-term electrical insulation. Its innovative spring design energized with PTFE confined to the bottom of both sides of the packaging ensures correct sealing for very critical service applications.
