Selection and assembly of a spring support

The correct selection of a spring support is based on a flexibility analysis carried out on a piping system. This study determines the loads and movements that the support points will have (vertical movement) and their variation when the system comes into operation.

Generally the use of spring supports is used to balance the forces and moment that can be generated in the nozzle of a piece of equipment (for example a turbine), to relieve very high tensions in the pipe and prevent it from losing slenderness in very long vertical sections and relieve loads.

The types of spring support used in these processes can be constant load or variable load; which have selection criteria that depend on the displacement they have with respect to the axis of the spring, when the point (node) comes into operation. Another important aspect is the load of the support, which determines the size and model of the support.

Lisega supports have features that make them special. Its standard finish, in the case of the spring, a shotblasting process is first carried out and then a coating is made with a 60 µm zinc-enriched primer and finally, the final coating is applied. They come protected against corrosion by a film of no less than 120 µm.

Among other important characteristics of our supports is that they do not have any welding and they all have identification plates which indicate all the characteristics of the spring.

The springs that Lisega uses for variable or constant load supports are subjected to a relaxation period, since when they are helically curved, significant tensions are generated, which if not eliminated can alter their load by 10%.

We are exclusive representatives in Colombia of the Lisega brand, a German manufacturer. Flexilatina has a test bench where we calibrate supports and additionally, inspect and repair.
