  • Adjust the type of packaging according to the operational risk and the real conditions of each stage of the process.
  • Get advice from specialized technical personnel who recommend the best alternative.

Common mistake:

  • Select the packaging without considering the surface finish and type of flange

  • Persistent leaks even with correct torque and good tightening procedure.

How to avoid it:

  • Check the recommended surface finish for each packaging.
  • Consider metallic or semi-metallic gaskets on rigid flanges.
  • Avoid soft gaskets in high-responsibility systems that require high clamping loads.

Common mistake:

  • Select a gasket that is suitable in theory, but impossible to seal with the available torque or the procedure applied in the field.

Consequence:

  • Forced installations, packaging damage or poor sealing.

  • Ensures that the gasket is compatible with the achievable torque.
  • Relates packing, bolts, lubrication and tightening procedure.
  • Follows good practices given by ASME PCC-1.
