Rubber expansion joints

Rubber expansion joints are flexible fittings that are mounted on pipelines to absorb movements caused by thermal expansion and/or mechanical vibration and facilitate the assembly of valves and equipment.

Due to their manufacture, type of materials and geometry, rubber expansion joints are very versatile and safe. They facilitate the solution in case of mechanical vibration, when a piping system is connected to rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors or turbines.

Most common materials used in the manufacture of rubber expansion joints seals

  • Natural Rubber (NR)
  • Buna-N® o Nitrilo® (NBR)
  • Buna-S® (SBR)
  • Cloroprene® (CR)
  • EPDM® (EPR)
  • Hypalon® (CSM)
  • Vitón®
  • PTFE y Silicone® (SI)

They are also supplied internally lined or fully fabricated in PTFE.

Can be with NPT or BSP threaded ends in diameters less than 3″ or standard flanges in diameters from 1 ¼″ to 144″.

In some models the flanges are of the same material as the body. Most commonly, in diameters from 1 ½” to 20″, the flanges are mounted on the body and are made of ASTM A36 carbon steel or stainless steel.

These gaskets are ideal in systems where the temperature is not higher than 100°C, when PTFE coated, they can work up to 120°C and for pieces totally manufactured in PTFE up to 200°C.

Rubber expansion joints are internally reinforced with synthetic fabrics such as Nylon®, Polyester® or Kevlar®, which guarantees that the part has a high mechanical resistance, allowing its use in systems with pressures up to 300 psi.

Our rubber gaskets are manufactured by our partner Dinatecnica do Brasil. Fulfilling all FSA (Fluid Sealing Association) requirements and with TÜV (Technischer Überwachungs-Verein) approval. German certification that allows them to be used in Europe, we have several models and pressure ranges from full vacuum up to 300 psi.

In special cases we supply gaskets manufactured by Ditec – Germany, in both cases the rubber expansion joints are of recognized quality.

Having more than 20,000 pieces installed in Colombia, makes Flexilatina a very reliable supplier.

Dinatecnica also manufactures PTFE coated rubber expansion joints; these joints are an excellent solution when you have very chemically aggressive fluids, they can work with pressure less than or equal to 300 psi and maximum temperature of 120°C.

We also supply gaskets made only in PTFE. These allow to solve problems of thermal expansion and/or mechanical vibration with very chemically aggressive fluids; they are of 2, 3, 4 or 5 waves, they can be used in temperatures up to 120°C for low pressures less or equal to 30 psi.

For the correct selection of rubber and/or PTFE expansion joints, it must be taken into account that the fluid must be compatible with the rubber expansion joint body material.
