Spirometallic gaskets are semimetallic accessories used in the industry to generate static sealing in processes in which pressure and temperature exist. Generally used on raised face flanges (Raised Face or RF), spiral gaskets are designed to prevent leaks of the fluid transported in the pipe line to the outside of the flanged joint.
Flexilatina de Colombia has the facilities, personnel and equipment suitable for the national manufacture of spirometallic packaging, in the various styles, sizes and materials that are required for each production process.
The company manufactures spirometallic packaging according to the standards of ASME B16.20, DIN En 1514-2, JIS B 2220 and JIS B 2238. They are also manufactured spirometallic packaging with special dimensions according to drawings supplied by the client.
There are different types of spirometallics:
- Style W: It is made up of the flexible “winding” part (spiral and filling material), without external and internal ring. Used on tongue and groove flanges.

- WR style: It consists of the flexible “winding” part (spiral and filling material), plus an external steel centralizing ring, which allows the studs of the flanged joint to be centered. Used on flanges with RF sealing face, general low liability applications.
- WRI style: It is composed of the flexible “winding” part (spiral and filling material), plus an external centralizing ring and an internal steel ring, which, in addition to centering the studs of the flanged joint, helps avoid buckling or internal deformation of the “winding”, which is sometimes generated by over-torque of the studs. It is used in general purpose and high responsibility applications, pressures and/or high temperatures, generally in RF type flanges.
- WI style: It consists of the flexible “winding” part (spiral and filling material), plus an internal steel ring, which helps avoid buckling or internal deformation of the “winding”, which is sometimes generated by over-torque of the studs. It is generally used in male and female flanges.
-
MW or MWI style: It is made up of the flexible “winding” part (spiral and filling material), which may or may not have an internal ring, its main characteristic is that they have an oval shape and are generally used for boiler lids.
-
WP, WRIP, WRP, WIP styles: These are the previously mentioned styles, with the difference that they have a central vein in the middle of the packaging. These types of gaskets are generally used in heat exchangers.
Just as there are several styles of spirometallics, there are also a variety of metal materials for the spiral, internal or external ring (stainless steel 304, 316L, 321, Monel, among others) and a soft non-metallic filling (graphite, PTFE, ceramic, mica, among others), which can be identified with the color coding located on the spine of the outer ring.
Dinaseal, a brand developed by Flexilatina of Colombia, is recognized nationally for providing solutions for static sealing with high quality standards for different types of industries.
The technical staff of Flexilatina de Colombia will provide advice for each type of application, helping to select the ideal style and material according to the needs of your production process.
